I can't believe that Pete Alonso has never been named my MLBoyfriend in the five seasons he's played in the MLB. He was featured on this site in 2019, his rookie year, in my first and only All-Star MLBoyfriend Tournament. Pete lost the tournament to the very worthy Vladimir Guerroro Jr. (who would go on to win another MLBoyfriend title in 2021).

You would think that with all Alonso has going for him--being a reliably very good player, being a super cutie, and being called "The Polar Bear" by teammates and fans--he would have won an MLBoyfriend title at some point in the past 6 years.

Last week, Alonso put up big enough numbers to finally win the title. The Polar Bear had a .364 batting average and a whopping 1.326 OPS. He had 8 hits including 2 doubles and 3 home runs. He scored 6 runs and batted in 11.

Congratulations, Pete Alonso! You are my MLBoyfriend of the week.

2019 MLBoyfriend Of The Year & Award Winners

For the first time, I'm naming an MLBoyfriend of the Year. And the winner is... Minnesota Twins Manager, Rocco Baldelli.

You may be surprised that the winner is not one of my MLBoyfriends of the week from this season or even a player. I had been looking for a chance to name Baldelli my MLBoyfriend all season. From the start, it was clear the rookie manager had made a huge impact on the Twins. Baldelli led the Twins through an amazing season with his supportive "millenial" style. He deservedly won the American League Manager of the Year award.

The icing on the cake is that Rocco Baldelli is a stone cold fox. His eyes alone could have won him the MLBoyfriend of the Year award.

It was a great night at Target Field when I got Rocco's baseball card as the give-away.

Rocco Baldelli is also, apparently, a good guy. Being nice to kids is a great way to earn points in my book.

*Okay, technically, Pete Alonso was never my MLBoyfriend this season; however, I did have a lot of very nice things to say about him in my All-Star Break post. Also, I couldn't pass up the chance to post about Pete Alonso participating in my favorite new celebration in baseball, players losing their shirts after a walk-off. This video seems like the perfect way to end my last post of 2019.

Special All-Star Break Edition

Welcome to the first All-Star MLBoyfriend Tournament.

This year, I'll be picking my  All-Star MLBoyfriend from the Home Run Derby participants. There are three reasons for this. First, I saw a lot more of the Home Run Derby than I did the actual All-Star game, so I can make a better informed choice. Second, there's a more manageable pool to select from. Finally, MLB nicely created this very handy bracket for me to use.
