Week 17: Eric Hosmer

Eric Hosmer definitely had a MLBoyfriend worth week. He had a .393 batting average with a .914 OPS, one home run, eight runs, eight RBIs and two stolen bases.

Oh, by the way, Hosmer's one home run last week was a grand slam in Kansas City's 16-2 rout of Detroit on Wednesday, July 26. That night, Hosmer became the first player in the Royal's history to get five hits, five RBIs and five runs in a single game.

Truth be told, I've just been waiting for Hosmer to have a great week for a while. I wanted to name him my MLBoyfriend, so that I would have an excuse to post an email exchange I had with my mother in May. She sent me a message titled, "Eric Hosmer" that simply read: "IS Eric gay? MOm". I replied: "I don't think so. Why do you ask?" Then, Mom slayed with her answer: "I have him in my dreams. MOm".

Week 16: Nolan Arenado

Nolan Arenado's stats from last week are very, very good: .458 batting average and a 1.480 OPS with 4 home runs, 9 runs and 13 RBIs.

Arenado's stats from Wednesday, July 19th, are nothing short of amazing. The Colorado Rockies' third baseman hit 3 home runs that day. In that day's game against the San Diego Padres, he had a .833 batting average and a 3.167 OPS with 4 runs and 7 RBIs. That was the day people started wondering if Arenado is the best player in baseball. But there was no debate that Nolan would be my MLBoyfriend.

He didn't need any bonus points, but Arenado got some when he celebrated his big week by hiring a deejay for the Rockies batting practice on Friday. He also gets some bonus points for this....

Week 15: Aaron Judge

In theory, my MLBoyfriend is chosen from the last week of play, but this one was in the bag by Monday, July 10. That's when Aaron Judge won the Home Run Derby and became my first repeat MLBoyfriend of 2017.

Judge didn't just win the Home Run Derby--he crushed it hitting four home runs over 500 hundred feet. That night, the Yankees rookie was the biggest, brightest star in baseball.

And he did it wearing really cute, tropical pattern socks.

Congratulations, Aaron Judge! At the Home Run Derby, you became not just my MLBoyfriend, but you were America's MLBoyfriend.

2017 All-Stars

Lest you think this blog is a beauty contest, I'll have you know that eight of my fourteen 2017 MLBoyfriends were selected for this year's All-Star Game. That gives me a .571 win record which would be good enough to have the lead in four of the six divisions in the MLB right now.

And the 2017 All-Star MLBoyfriends are...

Week 1: Miguel Sano

Sano took 2nd place in the 2017 Home Run Derby.

Bonus picture: Sano with teammate, fellow All-Star and former MLBoyfriend, Santana.

Week 3: Bryce Harper

Harper and his wonderful hair are making their 5th All-Star Game appearance.

Week 5: Ryan Zimmerman

It's been a long and sometimes difficult 8 years since Zimmerman's only other All-Star Game.

Week 6: Buster Posey

Posey--the epitome of a C.Y.D.*--with his daughter at the 2016 All-Star Game.

Week 8: Erwin Santana

Santana is a rarity--the first Minnesota Twins starting pitcher at the All-Star Game in a decade.

Bonus picture: Santana with teammate, fellow All-Star and former MLBoyfriend, Sano.

Week 10: Aaron Judge

Judge wins the Home Run Derby in his rookie year.

Week 13: Joey Votto

Votto will soon be buying a donkey for teammate and fellow All-Star Zack Cozart--for real.

Week 14: George Springer

Springer & Carlos Correa, 2 of the 6(!) Astros--a franchise record--going to the All-Star Game.

Congratulations to all my All-Star MLBoyfriends!

PS: For what it's worth, eight of my 2016 MLBoyfriends were selected for the 2017 All-Star rosters. Congrats to Bryce Harper (again), Michael ConfortoRobinson Canó, Max Scherzer, Buster Posey (again), José Altuve, Yu Darvish, & Gary Sanchez!

Week 14: George Springer

I guess I can't pretend like the Houston Astros aren't really, really good forever--as much as I'd like to. They are going into the All-Star break with 60 wins and are a whopping 16.5 games ahead in the American League West. A team doing that well clearly has a lot of great players on it--including one of my MLBoyfriends from 2016, José Altuve. George Springer is possibly the best Astro of all this season.

If George Springer has been red hot this season, last week, he was on fire. He had a .577 batting average and a 1.625 OPS with three home runs, twelve runs, nine RBIs and two stolen bases (his only two of the season).

As if being arguably the best player on arguably the best team in baseball wasn't enough enough to become my MLBoyfriend, George Springer also has this going for him...

Week 13: Joey Votto

HAPPY 150th BIRTHDAY, CANADA!

In honor of our neighbor-to-the-north's sesquicentennial on July 1st, I've chosen Joey Votto, my favorite Canadian baseball player, as my MLBoyfriend of the week.

Joey Votto didn't just win the prize because he's a Canuck. He had a beauty of a week last week.

Votto had an amazing .524 batting average and an equally amazing 1.725 OPS with 6 runs, 6 RBIs,  3 home runs and one stolen base.

Joey Votto also gained major points in my book when he dressed as a donkey to drum up votes for teammate and donkey enthusiast Zack Cozart's All-Star campaign. Votto has promised to buy Cozart a donkey if Cozart was selected for the All-Star Game, and now Votto is shopping for one.
