Jackson Merrill

Can anyone explain to me why three of the youngest MLB players are all named JacksonSure, it seems like a very early-2000's boys' name. However, it was only the 30th most popular in 2003 when Jackson Merrill and Jackson Holliday were born. It did move up in 2004 when Jackson Chourio was born--but only to 23rd.

For what ever reason, that name must have magical baseball powers. The three rookie Jacksons were literally slugging it out for my attention last week.

As good as Holliday and Chourio were, I had to give it to Jackson Merrill who had a monster week at the plate last week.

Merrill went 10 for 24 for a .417, but it was the extra-base hits that really set him apart. He had 1 double, 1 triple and 4 home runs giving him a slugging percentage of 1.042--that's really, really big. Oh, along the way, he scored 9 runs, batted in 8 and stole base twice. He definitely earned the National League Player of the Week Award he was given today.

Congratulations, Jackson Merrill! You are my MLBoyfriend of the week.

Dylan Cease

Dylan Cease became the front-runner for MLBoyfriend last week when he threw a no-hitter on Thursday, July 25.

The no-hitter was enough to earn Cease the title of National League Player of the Week

However, throwing a no-hitter does not guarantee winning the MLBoyfriend title (sorry, Ronel Blanco). So, what put Cease over the top?

Honestly, it was Dylan's mustache that clinched the MLBoyfriend title for him.

Congratulations, Dylan Cease! You are my MLBoyfriend of the week.

Joe Musgrove

Joe Musgrove, a.k.a Moose, pitched two very good games last week.

On the 4th of July, Musgrove went 7 full innings against the Los Angeles Angels giving up just 3 hits, 1 walk and 1 earned run while striking out 11.

Then, Musgrove went 6 full innings against the New York Mets. He struck out 7 and gave up 3 hits, 0 walks, and 0 earned runs.

Musgrove ended the week with 2 wins, and an impressive 0.69 ERA and 0.50 WHIP.

Also, is "zaddy" still a thing? Because if it is, it definitely applies here.

Congratulations, Joe Musgrove! You are my MLBoyfriend of the week.

Week 9: Fernando Tatis Jr.

Fernando Tatis Jr. is the first repeat winner of the MLBoyfriend title in 2021. He won the coveted title just a month ago, but he certainly deserves it again.

When you're hot, you're hot--and there's no denying that Tatis has been on a hot streak.

Last week, Tatis topped MLB batters in home runs (4), runs scored (9), and RBIs (16!). He ended the week with an impressive .333 batting average and 1.299 OPS. He even stole two bases along the way.

As if all there weren't enough, Tatis earned serious bonus points by doing the full splits.

Even if his batting streak ends, Tatis will still be hot.

Congratulations, Fernando Tatis Jr.! You are my MLBoyfriend of the week. Keep up the good work, and you could have a three-peat before the season is over.

Week 4: Fernando Tatís Jr.

Fernando Tatís Jr. deserves his nickname "El Niño" for two reasons. First, at just twenty-two years of age, he's one of the youngest MLBoyfriends ever. But, more to the point, he hit Los Angeles like a storm last week--hitting five home runs in three games.

Tatís ended the week with the aforementioned 5 home runs, 9 runs, 7 RBIs, 4 stolen bases, a .385 batting average, and a whopping 1.467 OPS.

And he looked good putting up those numbers.

Congratulations,
Fernando Tatís Jr.! You are my MLBoyfriend of the week. MLB seems to agree with my pick as Tatís was also named National League (Co-)Player of the Week.

Week 1: Eric Hosmer

Eric Hosmer, came out swinging to start 2021. He had three hits in each of the first two games and 13 total bases in those games--setting two franchise records for the San Diego Padres. As of this posting, he has an amazing .636 batting average and 2.030 OPS for the (admittedly not-even-week-old) season with 3 runs, 2 home runs, and 6 RBIs.

Hosmer did all this looking handsome as ever.

Congratulations, Eric Hosmer, you are the first MLBoyfriend of 2021. My Mom would have been so happy--you were one of her favorites.

Week 10: Wil Myers

I picked up Wil Myers for my fantasy team last Sunday, and he was a big part of my team's dominance in last week's match up. His 3 home runs, 7 RBIs, 7 runs and 2 stolen bases along with a .333 batting average and a whopping 1.185 OPS were more than enough to earn him the title of my MLBoyfriend.

My only regret is that I didn't pick Myers up earlier as he has been on a hot streak since the beginning of the month.

While he looks good on the field...
